The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators kicked off this season with a thrilling game which ended with Ottawa winning in overtime. Despite Toronto taking the loss, they had the main storyline coming out of this game with their first overall pick from this year’s draft, Auston Matthews, having a historic four-goal game in his NHL debut. His performance, along with some of Toronto’s other rookies should have Leafs fans feeling pretty good about their future.
As for Ottawa, they rode their top players to get this win with Turris, Stone, Karlsson and Ryan playing big parts in most of their goals, Turris scoring the game winner. They gave up a lot of shots to Toronto and caught goaltender Frederik Anderson on an off-night, but a win is a win.
