EDM 4, WSH 1, 10/26/2016

I’m going to be posting a bunch of games today, so the analysis part will be kept even shorter than usual.

Edmonton rode their top players and their goaltender for this win. They got a couple of goals from the Nugent-Hopkins line, but they were more lucky bounces than anything. The McDavid line & the Klefbom-Larsson pairing carried them for most of this game and Cam Talbot was also excellent in goal. Washington didn’t help their cause with a few missed opportunities and shots on the power play, but they still outchanced Edmonton and made Talbot earn this win.

PHI 4, BUF 3, 10/25/2016

The Flyers rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Buffalo Sabres in a shootout. Statistically, this was one of their best games of the season, which is expected since they spent most of it playing from behind. That said, they got another great performance out of the Konecny-Couturier-Voracek line until they were broken up sometime in the third period. Couturier was replaced by Claude Giroux and he ended up having one of his best games of the year, playing a big role in the Flyers game-tying goal late in the third period.

There’s some things to be concerned with, though. They fell behind 3-0 to a Sabres team that’s missing two of their best forwards and their penalty kill got lit up yet again. Buffalo also set the table for this comeback, sitting on their lead for most of the third period and getting into penalty trouble late in the game. Can’t fault the Flyers for taking advantage of that, though as they had one of their more impressive offensive showings in this young season.

MTL 3, PHI 1, 10/24/2016

Tough loss for the Flyers and a pretty choppy game overall. They created enough offense to win compared to Montreal, but Carey Price was on his game and the Habs took advantage of a late power play in the third period and that ended up being the difference. One thing the Flyers can feel positive about is the play of Jakub Voracek, as his line drove most of the offense yet again and he in particular had a fantastic game. They didn’t have much going otuside of this trio, though. The Giroux line had a quiet night and the bottom-six couldn’t pick up the slack. They also weren’t on the power play much, which is where Giroux & Simmonds have done most of their damage this year. Not one of their best performances of the year but they probably could have earned a point.
